The form is common in formal, analytical, or journalistic prose, where authors want to present a piece of information as supporting rather than definitive proof.

As a translative form, osoituksena answers the question of designation or role: “as what?” For example, a sentence might begin with “Osoituksena siitä, että tilanne on muuttunut,…” meaning “As evidence of the fact that the situation has changed, …” The construction is flexible, and it often combines with clauses like siitä, että or with other nouns to specify what is being evidenced.
