Ortoqueratologia, often abbreviated as Ortho-K, is a non-surgical vision correction method that involves wearing specially designed rigid gas-permeable contact lenses overnight. These lenses gently reshape the cornea, the front surface of the eye, while the wearer sleeps. The reshaping temporarily corrects refractive errors such as myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), and astigmatism.

Upon waking, the wearer removes the lenses and can see clearly throughout the day without the need for glasses or conventional contact lenses. The cornea gradually returns to its original shape over time, so to maintain clear vision, the Ortho-K lenses must be worn regularly, typically every night. The effects are reversible, meaning if lens wear is discontinued, the eyes will revert to their previous refractive state.

The process begins with a comprehensive eye examination by an eye care professional specializing in Ortho-K. This includes precise measurements of the eye and cornea to determine the appropriate lens design and prescription.
