Orsócsonttörések refer to fractures of the radius, one of the two long bones in the forearm. The radius is located on the thumb side of the forearm. These fractures can occur in various parts of the radius, including the radial head, radial neck, radial shaft, and the distal radius (near the wrist).

The most common cause of an orsócsonttörés is a fall onto an outstretched hand, often called a FOOSH injury. This mechanism can lead to a variety of fracture patterns, depending on the force and angle of impact. Other causes include direct blows to the forearm, sports-related injuries, and, in some cases, repetitive stress.

Symptoms of an orsócsonttörés typically include pain, swelling, bruising, and tenderness at the site of the fracture. There may also be deformity of the forearm, difficulty moving the wrist and elbow, and a snapping or grinding sensation at the time of injury. In some severe cases, the bone may break through the skin, which is known as an open or compound fracture.

Diagnosis is usually made through a physical examination and X-rays. Further imaging, such as a CT scan, may be necessary to assess complex fractures or to plan for surgery. Treatment depends on the type and severity of the fracture. Nondisplaced or minimally displaced fractures may be treated with immobilization using a cast or splint. Displaced fractures or those involving the joint surfaces often require reduction (realigning the bone fragments) and surgical fixation with plates, screws, or rods. Rehabilitation, including physical therapy, is crucial for regaining strength, range of motion, and function after healing.
