Orsócsonttörés refers to a fracture of the radius bone, which is one of the two long bones in the forearm. The radius is located on the thumb side of the forearm. These fractures can occur in various parts of the radius, including the radial head, radial neck, radial shaft, or the distal radius. Distal radius fractures, often referred to as Colles' fractures when they occur at the wrist, are the most common type of radius fracture.

Causes of orsócsonttörés typically involve direct trauma to the forearm or wrist. Falls onto an outstretched hand are a frequent cause, especially in older adults with osteoporosis. Direct blows to the forearm, such as from a sports injury or an accident, can also lead to a fracture. The severity of the fracture can range from a simple crack in the bone to a complete break with displacement of the bone fragments.

Symptoms of an orsócsonttörés usually include pain at the fracture site, swelling, bruising, and tenderness. There may also be deformity of the forearm or wrist, and difficulty moving the arm or hand. In some cases, a snapping or grinding sensation may be felt at the time of injury.

Diagnosis is typically made through a physical examination and X-rays. Treatment depends on the type and severity of the fracture. Non-displaced fractures may be treated with immobilization using a cast or splint. Displaced fractures often require reduction, where the bone fragments are manipulated back into their proper alignment, followed by casting. In some severe or unstable fractures, surgery may be necessary to stabilize the bone with plates, screws, or rods. Rehabilitation, including physical therapy, is usually an important part of the recovery process to regain strength and range of motion.
