ondóhólyagok

Ondóhólyagok, also known as seminal vesicles, are a pair of glandular sacs in the male reproductive system. They are located posterior to the urinary bladder and anterior to the rectum. Each ondóhólyag is about 5 to 10 centimeters long and is composed of a convoluted tube that can be up to 15 centimeters long when uncoiled.

The primary function of the ondóhólyagok is to produce a significant portion of the seminal fluid, which is a component of semen. This fluid is alkaline and contains fructose, a sugar that provides energy for sperm motility. Additionally, the fluid contains prostaglandins, which can stimulate smooth muscle contractions in the female reproductive tract, aiding in sperm transport. It also contains clotting factors that help semen coagulate after ejaculation, keeping it within the female reproductive system.

During sexual arousal, the ondóhólyagok contract, expelling their secretion into the ejaculatory ducts. These ducts then merge with the ductus deferens to form the ejaculatory ducts, which pass through the prostate gland and empty into the urethra. The fluid from the ondóhólyagok mixes with sperm from the testes and secretions from the prostate gland and bulbourethral glands to form semen.

The production of seminal fluid is regulated by androgens, primarily testosterone. Disorders affecting the ondóhólyagok can impact male fertility, though they are relatively uncommon. Infections or blockages can occur, but surgical removal is rarely necessary unless for specific pathological conditions.
