ondóhólyag

ondóhólyag is the Hungarian term for the seminal vesicle. The seminal vesicles are a pair of glands located in the pelvis of males, situated behind the urinary bladder and above the prostate gland. They are part of the male reproductive system and play a crucial role in the production of semen.

Each seminal vesicle is a coiled tube, approximately 10-15 cm in length when uncoiled, but typically forming a sac-like structure due to its convoluted nature. The internal surface of the seminal vesicle is lined with glandular tissue that secretes a viscous, alkaline fluid. This fluid constitutes a significant portion, about 70%, of the total volume of semen.

The secretion from the seminal vesicles is rich in fructose, which serves as the primary energy source for sperm motility. It also contains prostaglandins, which may stimulate smooth muscle contractions in the female reproductive tract, potentially aiding sperm transport. Additionally, the fluid contains clotting factors and other proteins that help semen coagulate after ejaculation, preventing it from immediately flowing back out of the vagina.

The seminal vesicles are influenced by androgens, primarily testosterone, and their secretions are released into the ejaculatory ducts, which then merge with the vas deferens to form the urethra. This process occurs during ejaculation. The seminal vesicles are analogous in function to the female Bartholin's glands, though their secretions differ in composition.
