Solvent abuse, also known as solvent sniffing or glue sniffing, refers to the intentional inhalation of volatile substances for psychoactive effects. These substances are commonly found in everyday household products such as glues, paints, aerosols, cleaning agents, and lighter fluids. The vapors from these products contain chemicals that, when inhaled, can produce a temporary feeling of euphoria, dizziness, or hallucinations.

The practice of solvent abuse is most prevalent among adolescents and young adults, often as a coping mechanism or as a result of peer pressure. The immediate effects can include lightheadedness, slurred speech, and impaired coordination. However, the risks associated with solvent abuse are severe and can be irreversible. Inhaling these chemicals can lead to a range of health problems, including damage to the brain, liver, kidneys, and lungs. Sudden Sniffing Death Syndrome, a fatal cardiac arrhythmia, can occur even after a single instance of solvent abuse.
