odotetulla

Odotetulla is a fictional genus of flowering plants in the family Dipterocarpaceae, created for worldbuilding or illustrative purposes. The genus is monotypic, containing a single species, Odotetulla borneensis, described as a canopy tree of tropical forests.

Odotetulla borneensis grows to 25–30 meters tall, with a straight trunk and buttressed base typical of larger Dipterocarpaceae. Leaves are alternately arranged, simple, oblong, with crenate margins. Inflorescences are terminal panicles bearing numerous small yellow-green flowers; fruits are two-winged samaras that disperse by wind.

Distribution is endemic to lowland and foothill tropical rainforests of Borneo, generally below 900 meters elevation. It favors well-drained, undisturbed forest canopies but can establish in selectively logged habitats with sufficient seed sources.

Ecology and uses: Odotetulla borneensis is insect-pollinated and forms part of the canopy guild characteristic of Dipterocarpaceae. The wood is described as moderately durable, valued for construction and veneer in the fictional setting, and the heartwood resin is noted in local lore.

Conservation status: In the fictional assessment, the species is listed as Endangered due to deforestation, habitat fragmentation, and small population size.

History and naming: The genus was described in 2015 by fictional botanist Lin Wei. The name Odotetulla is constructed from local linguistic elements and the Latin suffix -tulla.
