Obscrus is a fictional mineral introduced in speculative geology and world-building literature. It is described as a dense, dark mineral with a subtle iridescence and unusual optoelectronic properties that respond to light and magnetic fields.

The name obscrus combines the Latin obscurus meaning dark with the -crus suffix common in mineral nomenclature in fiction.

In most sources, obscrus rates 6 to 7 on the Mohs scale, has a density around 3.8 g/cm3, and a metallic to vitreous luster. It is typically opaque with a dark gray to black appearance and displays internal lamination and twinning. Under ultraviolet light, it can show a pale blue-green luminescence. Crystals are described as prismatic to tabular, often forming in axial symmetry.

Obscrus is said to form at high-temperature, subduction-related environments in basaltic magmas or in deep crustal pockets where silica activity is high. In fictional geographies, it has been found in restricted basalt provinces and plate boundaries.

In narrative contexts, obscrus is valued for photonic and magnetic properties. It is proposed for use in advanced optics, radiation shielding, or energy storage. In some works, obscrus-based prisms enable fast light modulation, while coated surfaces reduce detectability.

No verified natural deposits exist outside fiction; some guides propose laboratory synthesis through high-pressure, high-temperature growth from silicate melts or metal-rich flux growth, but practical production remains speculative.
