Autonomic nerves, which control involuntary bodily functions, can also be affected, resulting in issues with blood pressure, digestion, heart rate, and bladder control.

Diagnosis typically involves a thorough medical history, a physical and neurological examination, and often nerve conduction studies and electromyography (NMG) to assess nerve function. Blood tests may be conducted to identify underlying causes like diabetes or vitamin deficiencies. Treatment focuses on managing the underlying cause, alleviating symptoms, and preventing further nerve damage. This can include medications for pain, physical therapy to improve strength and function, and lifestyle modifications.
