Nádi is a term that appears in different linguistic and cultural contexts, and its meaning can vary accordingly. In some cases it is encountered as a place name, while in others it refers to a concept in traditional Indian knowledge.

In Fiji, Nadi (sometimes rendered as nádi in transliteration) is a town on the western side of Viti Levu. It hosts Nadi International Airport, one of Fiji’s major gateways for international tourism, and functions as a regional hub for transportation, commerce, and services in the island nation. The town is situated near the Nadi River and serves as a gateway for visitors traveling to Fiji’s western coast and nearby resort areas.

In Indian traditions, nadī (often transliterated nāḍī) denotes subtle energy channels through which life force, or prana, is believed to flow within the body. Nadis are a core concept in Ayurveda and yoga, distinct from the gross nervous system, and are discussed in various ancient and medieval Sanskrit texts. The three best-known nadis are Ida, Pingala, and Sushumna, and their balance is associated with physical well-being, mental clarity, and spiritual practice. Practices such as Nadi Shodhana, or alternate-nostril breathing, aim to purify or balance these channels and are commonly taught in yogic traditions.

In addition to these primary senses, the word nadi also appears in linguistic contexts where it means “river” in several Indian languages, and it may occur in transliterations with diacritical marks that reflect pronunciation across languages.
