Nonfibrinoid is a descriptive term used in histopathology to indicate tissue changes that do not contain fibrinoid material. The term is often used in pathology reports to differentiate areas that resemble fibrinoid change or necrosis but lack the characteristic fibrin-rich, eosinophilic appearance of true fibrinoid necrosis.

In practice, nonfibrinoid may describe regions of tissue injury or alteration where the material is amorphous or homogeneous but does not display the dense, fibrin-like deposition seen in fibrinoid necrosis. The designation is primarily descriptive and helps distinguish different forms of tissue damage rather than naming a specific disease process. It can be encountered in discussions of vasculitis, glomerular or other organ pathology, and in contexts where immune-mediated injury is evaluated, but it is not itself a diagnosis.

Limitations of the term include variability in its usage between laboratories and pathologists. Because it is a descriptive qualifier rather than a defined pathological entity, its precise meaning can differ, and it may be used inconsistently. Clinicians and pathologists commonly integrate the observation with additional findings, such as patterns of necrosis, immune deposition, or inflammatory infiltrates, to reach a final diagnosis.
