It is described as lying in the eastern sea of the continental realm of Ardentis and comprises five main islands—Lumara, Virelle, Kesthyn, Nual, and Marris—with numerous smaller islets. The name comes from the Niukentuan language, with elements commonly interpreted as “light” and “shore.”

Geography and ecology: The islands range from volcanic highlands to mangrove coastlines. The climate is temperate to subtropical. Night waters host bioluminescent algae and plankton that illuminate the shores. Endemic species include the tali crane and the silverleaf mangrove, central to local ecology and lore.

History and politics: In the fictional chronology, Niukentua was settled by multiple seafaring communities before forming a loose federation. Later, it joined the Sea Alliance under a ceremonial council. In contemporary depictions, it exists as an autonomous federation with a regional parliament and inter-island cooperatives.

Culture and language: The Niukentuan language family comprises several dialects across the islands. Oral storytelling, kite making, and luminescent lantern arts are central cultural practices. The annual festival Lumen Tide, aligned with the new moon, features singing, dance, and bioluminescent displays.
