Nitrogenneon is not a widely recognized chemical species but a term that may be used to describe a transient, weakly bound complex between nitrogen-containing molecules (typically N2) and neon atoms or molecules. In this sense, nitrogenneon refers to van der Waals interactions rather than a covalently bonded compound, and any such association would be extremely weak and short-lived under ordinary conditions.

In gas-phase and cryogenic contexts, complexes such as Ne···N2 or N2···Ne can form temporarily when nitrogen-containing species are cooled in the presence of neon. These complexes are primarily of interest to physical chemists and spectroscopists because they provide information about intermolecular forces and the potential energy surface governing weakly bound systems. They are typically stabilized in cold jets or in neon matrices where thermal energy is insufficient to dissociate the complex.

Properties of nitrogenneon-type complexes are dominated by van der Waals forces. Binding energies are very small, often measured in the range of a few wavenumbers (cm−1), and the intercluster distances align with typical van der Waals separations, on the order of a few angstroms. Spectroscopic signatures are subtle, requiring high-resolution infrared or microwave techniques to detect shifts in vibrational or rotational transitions.

While not a practical chemical reagent or material, nitrogenneon-type complexes serve as a useful probe of intermolecular interactions involving nitrogen species and noble gases.
