Nihilista is a term derived from the Latin word "nihil," meaning "nothing." It generally refers to a person who holds nihilistic views, which are philosophical stances that reject widely accepted or fundamental aspects of human existence. Nihilism encompasses a range of beliefs, but at its core, it often involves the rejection of objective meaning, purpose, or intrinsic value in life.

Different forms of nihilism exist. Existential nihilism, for instance, posits that life is without objective meaning, purpose, or intrinsic value. Moral nihilism argues that there are no objective moral truths, and thus no actions are inherently right or wrong. Epistemological nihilism questions the possibility of knowledge or certainty. Political nihilism, historically, has advocated for the destruction of all existing political and social institutions without proposing any replacement.

The term "nihilist" can sometimes be used pejoratively to describe someone perceived as overly cynical, pessimistic, or destructive. However, in philosophical discourse, it describes individuals who have arrived at these conclusions through reasoned inquiry or a particular worldview.
