Nieruchom is a Polish term that denotes immobility or the state of not moving. It is rarely used in contemporary prose and is more commonly found in older literature, dialectal speech, or fixed expressions. In everyday Polish, the notion is usually conveyed by nieruchomy or by phrases referring to lack of movement, such as bycie w bezruchu.

Etymology and forms: The word derives from nie- (negation) + ruch (motion). The form nieruchom appears primarily in archaic or poetic contexts and is not standard in modern dictionaries. The contemporary adjective for immobility is nieruchomy, while bezruch or bezruchomość serves as the corresponding noun for lack of movement.

Usage: Historically, nieruchom described the physical immobility of objects, animals, or people and could be used figuratively to denote stagnation of ideas or institutions. In modern Polish, it is generally avoided or considered archaic. In scientific or technical writing, terms such as statyczny (static) or bezruchowy (motionless) are preferred for precision.

Distinctions: The noun nieruchomość, despite its similar appearance, refers to real estate and is etymologically unrelated to nieruchom. The similarity of the roots can cause confusion in non-specialist texts, so care is advised to distinguish between immobility (nieruchom) and real estate (nieruchomość).
