Nemgyógyulás, a Hungarian term, translates to "non-healing" or "failure to heal" in English. It refers to a wound or injury that does not progress through the normal stages of wound healing within an expected timeframe. This can encompass a wide range of conditions, from superficial skin abrasions that fail to close to complex bone fractures that do not mend.

The underlying causes of nemgyógyulás are varied and can include local factors such as infection, poor blood supply, or the presence of foreign bodies within the wound. Systemic factors also play a significant role. Chronic diseases like diabetes mellitus, peripheral vascular disease, and autoimmune disorders can impair the body's ability to initiate and sustain the healing process. Nutritional deficiencies, advanced age, and certain medications, such as corticosteroids, can also contribute to delayed healing.

Diagnosing the cause of nemgyógyulás typically involves a thorough medical history, physical examination, and often, further investigations like blood tests, imaging studies (X-rays, CT scans, MRI), and wound cultures to identify infection. Treatment strategies are tailored to the specific cause and may include optimizing underlying medical conditions, wound debridement to remove dead tissue, infection control, wound dressings designed to promote healing, and in some cases, surgical interventions to improve blood flow or stabilize fractures.
