This system is designed to monitor the health of both the mother and the developing fetus throughout the pregnancy and to prepare the individual for childbirth and parenthood. The services are free of charge for all residents in Sweden, funded through the public healthcare system.

The process typically begins with an initial contact shortly after a positive pregnancy test, where an appointment is scheduled with a midwife. During this first visit, a health assessment is conducted, including a review of medical history, blood tests, and information about lifestyle factors. Regular check-ups follow throughout the pregnancy, usually with a midwife, which include monitoring blood pressure, weight, and the growth of the fetus.
