myliwce

Myliwce is a fictional species introduced for use in speculative fiction and worldbuilding. In its imagined ecology, myliwce are small to medium semi-aquatic mammals endemic to marshes and river deltas of the fictional archipelago of Veska.

Adults typically range 40 to 60 cm in length with dense, water-repellent fur, a broad, paddle-like tail, and partially webbed hind feet. They have long whiskers and a sharp, sensitive nose for detecting prey in murky water. Coloration varies by region, usually mottled brown or gray with lighter underparts.

Myliwce are described as occupying reed beds, mangrove edges, and slow rivers across Veska and nearby fictional lands. They build simple burrows with submerged entrances and spend most daylight hours in cover. They are adept swimmers, often diving to forage underwater.

They are mostly nocturnal, living solitary or in small family groups. Myliwce are omnivorous, feeding on aquatic invertebrates, small fish, seeds, and aquatic plants. They use their tails to help maneuver underwater and may travel between wetlands in search of food. Reproduction is seasonal; litters of two to four are common, with a parental care period lasting several months.

In folklore, myliwce are sometimes portrayed as shy, rain-bringing creatures. In fictional contexts, they may be kept in captivity in large aquaria within settlements. Because they are fictional, there is no real-world conservation status or scientific taxonomy.
