Muoviköysi, often translated as plastic rope or synthetic rope, refers to any rope constructed from plastic materials. The production process involves extruding these polymers into fine filaments, which are then twisted or braided together to form the rope.

The properties of muoviköysi vary significantly depending on the plastic used. Polypropylene ropes are lightweight, buoyant, and resistant to moisture and most chemicals, making them suitable for marine applications and general utility. Nylon ropes are known for their strength, elasticity, and abrasion resistance, making them ideal for applications requiring shock absorption, like towing or climbing. Polyester ropes offer excellent strength, durability, and resistance to UV radiation and abrasion, commonly used in rigging, sailing, and load securing. Polyethylene ropes are strong, lightweight, and inexpensive, often used for lighter duty applications.

Muoviköysi is widely used across numerous industries and for recreational purposes. Its applications include sailing and boating, industrial lifting and towing, construction, agriculture, camping, and general household use. The advantages of muoviköysi over natural fiber ropes include their superior durability, resistance to rot and mildew, lower water absorption, and often higher strength-to-weight ratio.
