Multibattery refers to a system or device that utilizes more than one battery to provide power. This can encompass a wide range of configurations, from simple arrangements of two batteries in series or parallel to more complex battery packs containing numerous individual cells. The primary reasons for employing multiple batteries include increasing voltage, increasing current capacity, or providing redundancy.

In a series configuration, batteries are connected positive terminal to negative terminal. This adds their individual voltages together, resulting in a higher overall voltage output. For example, two 12-volt batteries in series will produce a 24-volt system. This is commonly seen in applications requiring higher operating voltages, such as electric vehicles or certain power tools.

Parallel connections, where positive terminals are connected together and negative terminals are connected together, increase the total current capacity or amp-hour rating of the battery bank. This allows the system to deliver more current for a longer period. For instance, two 12-volt batteries with a capacity of 100 amp-hours each, when connected in parallel, will still provide 12 volts but with a combined capacity of 200 amp-hours. This is beneficial for applications with high power demands or extended runtimes.

More complex multibattery systems, often found in uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) or renewable energy storage, can combine both series and parallel connections to achieve specific voltage and capacity targets. These systems are crucial for ensuring continuous power supply and managing energy storage efficiently.
