Motorområdet refers to a region of the frontal lobe in the brain. It is primarily responsible for the planning, initiation, and execution of voluntary movements. This area is not a single, uniform entity but rather comprises several distinct but interconnected regions.

The primary motor cortex, located in the precentral gyrus, is the main output area for motor commands. It directly controls the execution of movements, with different parts of the cortex corresponding to different parts of the body, forming a somatotopic map. Adjacent to the primary motor cortex are the premotor cortex and the supplementary motor area. These areas are involved in more complex aspects of motor control, including the planning of sequences of movements, learning motor skills, and coordinating movements with sensory information.

The motorområdet also includes the frontal eye fields, which control voluntary eye movements, and the Broca's area, typically located in the left hemisphere, which is crucial for language production and the motor aspects of speech. Damage to different parts of the motorområdet can result in a variety of motor deficits, such as paralysis, paresis, apraxia, or difficulties with speech.
