Motorike refers to the abilities that enable purposeful movement and interaction with the environment. It arises from the integration of sensory input, neural control, muscle strength, and coordination. It includes gross motor skills (walking, running, jumping), fine motor skills (grasping, drawing, writing), as well as coordination, balance, and motor planning.

Development occurs from infancy through adulthood. Infants progress from basic postures and movements to crawling, standing, and walking. Children refine precision and speed through play and practice; adults maintain and adapt skills for daily tasks, work, and sport. Aging can affect strength, balance, and reaction time, often requiring compensatory strategies.

Factors influencing motorike include biology (neural development, muscle tone, sensory processing) and environment (opportunities for movement, encouragement, safety). Health conditions such as developmental coordination disorder, cerebral palsy, stroke, or neurodegenerative disease can impair motorike. Interventions aim to improve functional movement and participation, not only raw performance.

Assessment and intervention combine observation with standardized tools and therapy. Standardized assessments such as the Bruininks-Oseretsky Test of Motor Proficiency or the Peabody Developmental Motor Scales are used in many settings. Interventions include physical therapy for strength and balance, occupational therapy for fine motor skills and daily activities, task-specific practice, adaptive equipment, and inclusive physical education. Effective support emphasizes meaningful activities, motivation, and safe practice to promote independence and confidence.
