Moodals are a type of interactive element used in user interface design, particularly within web and mobile applications. They are small, self-contained components that present information or offer a limited set of choices to the user without requiring them to navigate away from their current screen. Often appearing as overlays or pop-up windows, moodals are designed to be unobtrusive yet readily accessible.

The primary function of a moodal is to streamline user interaction by providing immediate feedback or facilitating a quick action. Examples include confirmation messages after a user performs an action, forms for quick data entry like email sign-ups, or embedded media players. They are distinct from full-page modals as they typically occupy a smaller portion of the screen and are less disruptive to the user's workflow.

The term "moodal" itself is a portmanteau, combining "modal" and "modeless." A modal window blocks all interaction with the parent window until it is dismissed, whereas a modeless window allows interaction with both. Moodals often fall into a grey area, presenting a modal-like experience for a specific task but designed to be less imposing than a traditional full-screen modal. This design choice aims to improve user experience by maintaining context and reducing the perceived effort required to complete a task. Developers use moodals to enhance engagement and simplify complex interfaces by breaking down tasks into smaller, manageable steps.
