Monteringsrails, or mounting rails, are elongated metal rails used as standardized support surfaces to mount a wide range of components and devices in electrical enclosures, control panels, server racks, and machinery. They enable modular arrangement, quick installation, and easy replacement by providing a common rail for snapping, clipping, or securing hardware.

Two common forms are the DIN rail and the top-hat (TH) rail. The DIN rail is widely used in electrical and automation installations and typically has a width of about 35 mm with a distinctive profile that allows clip-on device mounting. Other forms include flat or U-shaped mounting rails used in varied industrial and mechanical applications. Rails are manufactured in materials such as steel (often zinc or galvanic coatings for corrosion resistance), stainless steel, or aluminum, and are offered in lengths that are commonly 1 or 2 meters, cut to length as needed. Finishes vary from zinc plating and powder coating to anodizing for aluminum.

In practice, monteringsrails are mounted to enclosure walls or rack uprights with screws, end brackets, or dedicated clamps. Devices such as circuit breakers, terminal blocks, relays, and automation modules are designed to attach to the rails, either by snapping onto the rail or by securing with screws. The rails provide a versatile, reconfigurable framework suitable for electrical control systems, industrial machinery, and photovoltaic mounting systems in many regions.
