Monistiske is an adjective used in Danish and related languages to describe ideas, theories, or systems that are monistic in nature. Monism is a metaphysical position asserting that reality consists of a single fundamental substance or principle, in contrast to dualism (two kinds of substance) and pluralism (many substances). The term is commonly used in philosophy, theology, and science to characterize viewpoints that emphasize unity as the ground of all being or experience.

In philosophy, monism can take several forms. Metaphysical monism holds that there is only one kind of substance, such as substance monism (as in Spinoza’s doctrine of God or Nature) or neutral monism (mind and matter are manifestations of a single underlying substrate). Materialism and idealism are often described as monistic theories, respectively reducing all phenomena to matter or to mental phenomena.
