In practice, modality appears in areas like law, medicine, and decision making, where “treatment modalities” or “options” denote distinct approaches or courses of action with different admissibility, risks, and outcomes. Metaphorically, modality helps explain how reasoning and communication encode factors such as doubt, confirmation, duty, and agency.
