microsysteem
A microsystem is a small, self-contained environment that possesses characteristics of a larger system, but operates on a significantly reduced scale. This concept can be applied across various fields, including biology, sociology, and engineering. In biology, a microsystem might refer to a petri dish containing a culture of microorganisms, or a small aquatic environment like a pond. These are microcosms of larger ecosystems, allowing for controlled study of biological processes.
Sociologically, a microsystem refers to the immediate settings in which an individual interacts directly with others.
In engineering, the term is often used interchangeably with microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) or micro-systems technology (MST).
