Microfleece is a lightweight fleece fabric made from polyester fibers, characterized by a thin, brushed nap that creates a soft, smooth face and a fuzzy interior. It is a thinner variant of fleece, offering warmth with low bulk and good breathability.

Manufacture and characteristics: The fabric is knit from polyester yarns and then brushed on one or both sides to raise the short fibers, producing a soft hand. Weighing roughly 100–150 g/m², microfleece is lighter than standard polar fleece. Some variants may use recycled polyester (rPET). The smooth face reduces snagging, while the brushed side provides warmth and a comfortable feel against the skin.

Properties: Microfleece is soft and warm for its weight, with high breathability and moisture-wicking tendencies. It dries quickly, resists creasing, and is generally easy to care for. The level of insulation is suitable for mid-layers or light outerwear; the fabric is typically more breathable and less bulky than heavier fleece variants.

Uses: It is commonly used in base layers, lightweight jackets and sweatshirts, hoodies, and linings for outerwear, as well as blankets and travel wraps. Its balance of warmth, weight, and softness makes it popular for outdoor apparel and casual wear.

Care and durability: Microfleece is usually machine washable and can be tumble dried on low. Avoid high heat and fabric softeners, which can reduce wicking performance and fabric integrity. Pilling may occur over time with heavy use, but gentle care helps minimize wear.
