metylimetakrylaatti
Metylimetakrylaatti, often abbreviated as MMA, is an organic compound with the formula CH2=C(CH3)COOCH3. It is a volatile, colorless liquid with a characteristic acrid odor. MMA is an ester of methacrylic acid and methanol. It is widely used as a monomer in the production of polymers, most notably polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), commonly known as acrylic glass or Plexiglas.
The polymerization of MMA can occur through various mechanisms, including free radical, anionic, and cationic polymerization.
Industrially, MMA is primarily produced through the acetone cyanohydrin process or the C4 oxidation route. It
