Metamorfeissa, also known as metamorphosis, is a biological process by which an animal physically develops after birth or hatching, involving a profound transformation from its original form. This process is characteristic of insects and some other invertebrates, as well as amphibians. Metamorphosis can be categorized into incomplete and complete types.

Incomplete metamorphosis, also known as hemimetabolism, occurs in insects like grasshoppers and cockroaches. These organisms undergo a series of nymphal stages, each resembling a miniature version of the adult, but with some differences in body proportions and features. This process involves four distinct stages: egg, larva (often called caterpillar or grub), pupa, and adult. The larva feeds and grows, shedding its skin multiple times. During the pupal stage, the larva transforms into an adult within a protective casing. This stage is characterized by significant physiological changes, including the development of adult structures and the breakdown of larval tissues. Upon emergence from the pupa, the adult insect is fully developed and capable of reproduction.
