Metallar is the plural form of "metal" in several Turkic languages, notably Turkish and Azerbaijani, and commonly refers to chemical elements or alloys characterized by metallic bonding and properties. Metals typically exhibit high electrical and thermal conductivity, luster, malleability and ductility, and tend to form positive ions in compounds. Most metals are solid at room temperature, with exceptions such as mercury.

In the periodic table, metals occupy the left and central regions and include groups such as the alkali metals, alkaline earth metals, transition metals, post-transition metals, lanthanides and actinides. Their chemical and physical behavior varies widely: alkali metals are highly reactive, transition metals often form colored compounds and variable oxidation states, and noble metals like gold and platinum resist corrosion.

Metallurgy covers the extraction, refining and processing of metals, including the production of alloys—combinations of metals or metals with nonmetals—to enhance strength, corrosion resistance or other properties. Common alloys include steel (iron and carbon) and brass (copper and zinc).

Metals play a central role in modern economies and technologies, being essential in construction, transportation, electronics, energy and medicine. Metal extraction and processing have environmental impacts, including habitat disruption, pollution and greenhouse gas emissions, which drive efforts in recycling, cleaner production and circular economy practices.
