An exclamation point might indicate excitement or urgency, while ellipses can suggest hesitation or a trailing thought. The context in which a message is delivered, such as the relationship between communicators or the setting, also acts as a metacue. Understanding metacues is crucial for effective communication, as they help to avoid misunderstandings and ensure that the intended meaning is conveyed and received accurately.
