Mesharkitekturer, often referred to as mesh networks, represent a decentralized network topology where each node, or device, connects to one or more other nodes. This creates multiple pathways for data to travel, unlike traditional star or bus topologies where data typically flows through a central point or along a single backbone. In a mesh network, devices can communicate directly with each other or relay messages for other devices.

There are two primary types of mesh networks: full mesh and partial mesh. In a full mesh, every node is connected to every other node. This offers the highest level of redundancy and reliability, as a failure in one connection does not disrupt the entire network. However, it also requires the most cabling or wireless connections, making it complex and costly to implement for larger networks. A partial mesh, on the other hand, connects only some nodes to multiple other nodes, offering a balance between redundancy and cost.

The advantages of mesh architectures include enhanced robustness and fault tolerance. If one node or link fails, data can be rerouted through alternative paths. This also provides scalability, as new nodes can be added without necessarily disrupting existing connections. However, mesh networks can be more complex to manage and configure, and the cost can be higher due to the increased number of connections. Applications for mesh networks range from wireless local area networks (WLANs) and sensor networks to power grid communications and battlefield communication systems.
