Mephitids are a family of small, mischievous magical creatures known for their elemental affiliations and foul tempers. They are typically found in environments that reflect their elemental nature, such as volcanic regions, swamps, or icy plains. Mephitids are often described as imps or sprites with distinct elemental characteristics. Their appearance varies greatly depending on their type, ranging from fiery beings of smoke and cinders to beings of mud and moss, or even creatures composed of ice and mist.

Despite their small size, mephitids are known for their potent, albeit usually minor, magical abilities tied to their element. They can exhale clouds of noxious gas, create small bursts of fire or ice, or conjure minor earth tremors. These abilities are often used for pranks, to defend themselves, or to harass intruders. Mephitids are generally considered neutral in alignment, driven by instinct and a desire to cause trouble or seek out comfortable environments. They rarely engage in complex plans and are often easily outwitted or bribed with shiny objects or suitable elemental sustenance.

Interactions with mephitids can be unpredictable.
