The term implies that a solution exists and is attainable, though not necessarily that it is easy or efficient to find. In mathematical logic, it is closely related to decidability, which specifically concerns whether an algorithm exists that can determine for any given instance of a problem whether it has a solution.

The concept of megoldhatóságot can be applied to various types of problems. For instance, in algebra, a system of linear equations might be considered solvable if there exists at least one set of values for the variables that satisfies all equations simultaneously. In the context of algorithms, a problem is considered solvable if there is a finite sequence of steps (an algorithm) that will produce the correct output for any valid input.
