Marbleproducing is the industrial and artisanal activity involved in producing marble, a metamorphic rock mainly composed of calcite or dolomite, for construction, sculpture, and decorative use. The term encompasses both the extraction and processing of natural marble and the manufacture of marble-like materials such as cultured marble.

Natural marble production begins with quarrying, where blocks are extracted using drills, diamond wire saws, and controlled blasting, followed by block shaping and transport to processing facilities. In plants, blocks are cut into slabs or tiles using gang saws or wire saws, trimmed, and finished. Surfaces are commonly polished, honed, brushed, or tumbled to achieve desired aesthetics. The quality of marble is judged by color, veining, translucency, and the absence of cracks or fissures; mine planning and quality control are critical to minimize waste and ensure uniform product.

Engineered marble, or cultured or resin-bound marble, is produced by combining crushed marble aggregates with resins or cement, coloring pigments, and additives, then casting and curing in molds to form slabs or tiles. This category offers greater consistency, uniformity, and sometimes lower cost, with uses in countertops, vanity tops, and wall cladding.

Environmental and social considerations include quarry restoration, water recycling, dust and noise control, energy use, and supply-chain responsibility. The marbleproducing sector is concentrated in regions with accessible marble deposits and established quarrying and finishing industries, notably parts of Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. Historically, marble production has played a central role in architecture and sculpture, throughout classical to contemporary periods.
