Mangalasutras are a set of sacred verses found in the Hindu scriptures, particularly in the Vedas and the Upanishads. The term "Mangalasutras" translates to "auspicious verses" or "auspicious formulas." These sutras are considered highly auspicious and are often recited at the beginning of any ritual or ceremony to invoke blessings and ensure the success of the proceedings. They are also recited at the start of any important event, such as the beginning of a new day, the start of a new year, or the commencement of a new project.

The Mangalasutras are composed of 16 verses, each consisting of a single line. They are believed to have been revealed to the sage Vishvamitra by the gods. The sutras are as follows:

1. Om bhur bhuva svah

2. Tat savitur varenyam

3. Bhargo devasya dhimahi

4. Dhiyo yo nah prachodayat

5. Om shanti shanti shanti

These verses are often recited in conjunction with other sacred texts, such as the Gayatri Mantra, to create a powerful and auspicious beginning to any ritual or ceremony. The Mangalasutras are considered to have the power to ward off evil and bring good fortune, making them an essential part of Hindu religious practice.
