Symptoms of hepatitis can vary depending on the cause and severity. Acute hepatitis often presents with symptoms such as fatigue, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, loss of appetite, jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes), dark urine, and pale stools. Chronic hepatitis may develop without noticeable symptoms for years, or it can manifest with less severe, persistent symptoms like fatigue and mild abdominal discomfort.

Diagnosis of hepatitis typically involves blood tests to detect viral markers, liver enzymes, and antibodies. Imaging techniques like ultrasound or CT scans may also be used to assess the liver's condition. Treatment strategies depend on the underlying cause. Viral hepatitis often requires supportive care, while specific antiviral medications are available for certain types like hepatitis B and C. In cases of severe liver damage or failure, a liver transplant may be necessary. Prevention plays a crucial role, especially for viral hepatitis, through vaccination, safe hygiene practices, and avoiding risky behaviors.
