magnetnõu

Magnetnõu is a magnetic tray or dish designed to hold small ferrous items by means of an integrated magnetic base. In workshop, manufacturing, and laboratory environments, magnetnõud keep metal parts such as screws, nails, drill bits, and washers within reach and prevent them from rolling away during work or cleaning. The term is Estonian, with nõu meaning dish or tray.

Most magnetnõud consist of a shallow tray made of metal or plastic, with a magnet embedded in the base. The magnets are commonly neodymium or samarium-cobalt types, chosen for strong pull without excessive bulk. Some designs have a stainless-steel outer shell, while others are coated to resist corrosion. Trays vary in size from a few centimeters across to several tens of centimeters, and some include a non-magnetic lid or edge ramp to prevent spillage.

Typical uses include organizing fasteners and small components during assembly, holding ferrous debris during grinding, and serving as a portable magnetized workstation in electronics repair. In workshops, they are valued for reducing loss, improving workflow, and simplifying tool retrieval. They are also used in laboratories to keep magnetic beads, small vials, or instrument screws sorted.

Safety and care: magnets can affect sensitive electronic devices and cards; keep magnetnõud away from credit cards, calculators, and certain medical devices. Do not expose to high heat, which can demagnetize magnets or damage the tray. Clean with a damp cloth; avoid abrasive cleaners that could scratch the surface.
