Légrétegzéses, a Hungarian term, translates to "air layering" in English and refers to a horticultural propagation technique used for plants. This method involves inducing root formation on a stem while it is still attached to the parent plant. It is particularly useful for woody plants and those that are difficult to propagate by cuttings.

The process typically begins by selecting a healthy, mature stem. A section of the bark is carefully removed, often in a ring or a strip, to expose the underlying cambium layer. This exposed area is then wrapped with moist sphagnum moss, which provides a humid environment conducive to root development. The moss is usually secured with plastic wrap or aluminum foil to retain moisture and prevent it from drying out.

Over time, roots will emerge from the wounded area and grow into the moss. Once a sufficient root system has developed, the stem can be detached from the parent plant and potted as a new, independent plant. Légrétegzéses offers a higher success rate for certain species compared to other propagation methods, as the developing roots receive continuous nourishment from the parent plant until they are established.
