Luottamusvälillä is a Finnish language form related to luottamusväli, the statistical term for a confidence interval. In usage, luottamusvälillä is the adessive form meaning “on the confidence interval” or, in context, referring to data that lie within a given interval. The expression is grammatical rather than a separate technical concept, and it appears in sentences describing where a parameter or estimate lies with respect to a calculated interval.

A luottamusväli (confidence interval) is a range that is constructed from sample data to estimate an unknown population parameter, such as a mean or proportion. The interval is designed so that, in repeated sampling, the true parameter would lie within the interval a specified proportion of times (the confidence level, commonly 90%, 95% or 99%). The width of the interval reflects the precision of the estimate and depends on the sample size and the variability in the data.

Calculation is typically based on an estimate plus or minus a margin of error. A common form for a normal-distribution-based interval is the estimate ± critical value × standard error. For example, with an estimate of 2.0 and a standard error of 0.2, a 95% confidence interval would be about [1.61, 2.39]. In Finnish reports this is often presented as luottamusväli 95%: [1,61; 2,39].

Luottamusvälit differ from prediction intervals, which aim to cover the value of a new individual observation rather than a population parameter. In statistical writing, luottamusväli is the standard term, and luottamusvälillä may appear when describing where a particular estimate or statistic lies within the interval.
