Luchtveer, also known as an air spring or pneumatic spring, is a type of spring that uses compressed air to store and release energy. It functions by containing a volume of air within a flexible envelope or chamber, typically made of rubber or a similar elastomer. When a load is applied, the air is compressed, causing the spring to resist the compression and provide a cushioning effect. Conversely, when the load is removed, the expanding air pushes the envelope back to its original shape, releasing the stored energy.

The primary components of a luchtveer include the air chamber, a piston or diaphragm that separates the air from the external environment and moves with the load, and often a port for inflating or deflating the spring to adjust its stiffness and height. The force exerted by a luchtveer is dependent on the volume of air, the pressure within the chamber, and the surface area over which the pressure acts.
