In machinery, lubricants must be compatible with seals, elastomers, and metals to avoid degradation or contamination. In sexual contexts, follow product labeling and consider compatibility with condoms; latex condoms are generally compatible with water- and silicone-based lubes, while oil-based products can compromise latex. Safety and environmental concerns include avoiding spills, selecting biodegradable or less toxic options when possible, and following local disposal guidelines.
