Lowdrift is a term used across engineering disciplines to describe systems, devices, or components whose output remains stable with respect to time, temperature, supply variation, and other environmental factors. It is most commonly encountered in precision electronics and metrology, where even small drifts can compromise measurement accuracy and long-term reliability.

In electronics, drift denotes a slow change in an electrical quantity such as voltage, current, resistance, or sensor offset. Lowdrift parts are designed to maximize stability, often by minimizing temperature coefficients and aging effects. Typical candidates include lowdrift voltage references, lowdrift amplifiers, and sensors with low zero-offset drift. Performance is quantified by parameters such as input offset drift and temperature coefficient, usually given in microvolts or parts-per-million per degree Celsius (ppm/°C).

Achieving lowdrift involves careful material selection, circuit topology, calibration, and sometimes specialized techniques such as chopper stabilization or auto-zeroing to cancel offset. Designers also use calibration routines and, in some cases, periodic recalibration in the field to maintain accuracy over time.

Common applications include laboratory instrumentation, metrology equipment, aerospace navigation, medical devices, and precision industrial controls, where long-term stability is critical.
