Conversely, objects with large, flat surfaces, such as a parachute or a sail, experience significant air resistance.

The surface area exposed to the airflow is another key factor. A larger surface area generally leads to greater air resistance. For example, a flat sheet of paper falling will flutter and descend slower than a crumpled ball of the same paper due to its increased surface area interacting with the air. Air density also influences air resistance; at higher altitudes where the air is less dense, air resistance is lower than at sea level. Similarly, air viscosity, a measure of air's resistance to flow, contributes to the drag experienced by an object.
