Lipoproteiini is a complex molecule found in blood plasma, consisting of a lipid component (fats) and a protein component. These particles are essential for transporting lipids, which are insoluble in water, throughout the body. The protein part of a lipoproteiini, known as an apolipoprotein, plays a crucial role in the structure and function of the lipoproteiini, as well as in its recognition by cells.

Lipoproteiinis vary in size and density depending on the ratio of lipids to proteins. They are generally classified into several major types, including chylomicrons, very-low-density lipoproteiinis (VLDL), intermediate-density lipoproteiinis (IDL), low-density lipoproteiinis (LDL), and high-density lipoproteiinis (HDL).
