Linkstateominaisuuksia refers to the characteristics or properties associated with link-state routing protocols. In a link-state routing network, each router has a complete and up-to-date map of the network topology. This map is built by exchanging link-state advertisements (LSAs) with neighboring routers.

A key characteristic is the distribution of network knowledge. Unlike distance-vector protocols where routers only know about their neighbors' distance to destinations, link-state routers have full topological information. This allows them to calculate the shortest path to every destination using algorithms like Dijkstra's algorithm.

Another important property is flooding. LSAs are flooded throughout the entire network to ensure all routers have the same topological view. This flooding mechanism guarantees that routing information is consistent across the network.

Convergence in link-state networks is generally faster than in distance-vector networks. When a network change occurs, such as a link failure, the affected router floods an LSA update, and all routers recalculate their routes quickly.

Link-state protocols often exhibit greater stability because they are less prone to routing loops, which can be a problem in distance-vector protocols. The complete topological view and shortest-path calculation contribute to this stability.

However, link-state protocols can consume more memory and processing power due to the need to store the entire network map and run complex algorithms. The flooding of LSAs can also lead to increased network traffic, especially in large or rapidly changing networks. Examples of link-state routing protocols include OSPF and IS-IS.
