liittopiirit
Liittopiirit, often translated as "federation districts" or "union districts," refers to a historical administrative division within Finland. These districts were established in the early 20th century, primarily during the period of Russian rule, as a means of organizing local governance and public services. The concept of liittopiirit aimed to create larger, more unified administrative units that could better manage shared resources and responsibilities compared to smaller, more fragmented municipalities.
The formation and implementation of liittopiirit varied in scope and duration. They were not a uniform system
The concept of liittopiirit eventually evolved and was largely superseded by subsequent administrative reforms in Finland.
