Levelezésen, or "letter writing" in Hungarian, refers to the practice of composing and exchanging written correspondence, traditionally via physical letters. This method of communication has historical significance and remains relevant in both personal and professional contexts, though its prevalence has diminished with the rise of digital communication.

In Hungary, levelezésen was a common means of long-distance communication before the advent of telephones and email. Letters were often handwritten on paper, sealed with wax or adhesive, and sent through postal services. The Hungarian postal system, established in the 19th century, played a crucial role in facilitating this form of communication. Letters could convey personal messages, business transactions, or official notices, and they often carried sentimental or legal weight.

The process of levelezésen typically involved several steps: drafting the content, addressing the envelope, affixing postage, and depositing it in a mailbox or postal office. Letters might include formal greetings, such as "Szeretettel" (Dearly) or "Kedves" (Dear), followed by the body of the message and a closing salutation like "Üdvözlettel" (With greetings) or "Szívélyesen" (Warmly).

While levelezésen has largely been replaced by email, text messaging, and social media, it retains nostalgic and practical value.
